The Hair Hierarchy
Our first hair profile lies at the base of the pyramid, meet…
THE NURTURER – Autumn Hair
Her Personality: The Nurturer has what we call ‘autumn hair’. She could be the lady who has just recently become a natural, perhaps stepped out on the water and went for the Big Chop. Or she could be the girl who has come to the realization of the damage her hair has suffered with heat and chemical treatments.
Her Outlook: She knows that her hair is delicate and fragile like the autumn leaves and to reach the spring and summer seasons, winter needs to be endured. The Nurturer is therefore willing and ready to go through ‘Hair Hibernation’.
Her Goals: She understands that hair hibernation will mean; learning about finger detangling, wear protective styles half of the time and work towards establishing a hair regimen. She is maturing from being the girl who wears the latest trends, changing her hair style daily, to the woman who is ready to embrace ‘less is more’ and willing to apply minimal manipulation in anticipation of maximum results.
Our second hair profile sits at the center of the pyramid, meet…
THE KEEPER – Spring Hair
Her Personality: The Keeper has what we call ‘spring hair’. It’s full of health, vitality, sheen and most of all, it’s always beautifully styled. Keepers might not be overly concerned about growing their hair to new lengths, they love the place they are at and want to stay there.
Her Outlook: She knows that growing hair will require more time, which she doesn’t have much of, so Keepers look to balance wearing great styles while making sure they don’t cause excessive damage.
Her Goals: To preserve the integrity of her hair by wearing protective styles a quarter to half of the time and being extra careful when styling by strictly applying handling practices that keep breakage and damage to a minimum.
Our third and final hair profile rests at the top of the pyramid, meet…
THE GROWER – Summer Hair
Her Personality: The Grower has what we call ‘summer hair’. Like the rays of sunshine, its length (reach) knows no bounds. She strives to grow from length to length and look royally radiant throughout her rise.
Her Outlook: With time, practice and patience, she has come to acquire a good understanding of her hair. What works, want doesn’t and has established a solid regimen that compliments her perpetual growth.
Her Goals: Although not obsessed about growth, she continually dares to reach for longer lengths. And like the seed planted in the soil, which grows downward before it grows upward, she too, knows that the most important phase of growth is the internal (often hidden) growth, before the outward release of long flowing curls. And it is for this reason that you will rarely see her hair out. It will most often be tucked away in a form of protective style.
